Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday planted saplings at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on World Environment Day, fulfilling a promise made during his recent visit to Kutch. This year’s World Environment Day marks the launch of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign’s second phase, aiming to plant 10 crore trees from June 5 to September 30. The initiative encourages people to plant trees in their mothers’ names, symbolising love and responsibility towards nature.
In line with this initiative, PM Modi had previously planted a Peepal sapling on World Environment Day in 2024 at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi, highlighting the importance of trees and environmental conservation.
The Prime Minister has consistently emphasised the significance of tree plantation and environmental protection, urging every family to plant trees during the monsoon season and take pride in their contribution to the environment.
In response to the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7 and targeted terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the killing of more than 100 terrorists. India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
